Whether you are a new or returning player looking for a server to begin your adventure, you may be overwhelmed by the vast number of servers available to play. Chances are, you have browsed the RSPS list and found yourself unable to identify which server might be the right fit for you. Today I will give you some tips and tricks that I have personally used over the years, to help me better understand which server I may be interested in playing.
1. The Play Style
It’s very important to consider which activities you specifically enjoy most in RS, as most private servers are entirely built around certain aspects of the game. Some servers focus primarily on Player Versus Monster (PvM) content, whereas other servers may be geared more toward the Player Versus Player (PvP) aspect of the game. Some servers may offer a healthy mix of both, but will almost always be heavily influenced by one or the other. I would first determine the type of content I am looking for the most and use the ‘Filter By Type‘ function on the RSPS List page to narrow my search there first. You can also take this one step further by using the ‘Filter By Tags‘ function to get a little more specific about what you might be looking for. Almost every playable server is listed on the RSPS List or the New Server List, so you can be sure you aren’t missing out on any hidden gems!
2. The Experience
After deciding what type of content I’m looking for, the next big question I always ask myself is: Do I want a unique customized experience, or do I want to play something that closely relates to RS? This can be a tricky question as there are many servers that fall right in between these categories and capture both custom and authentic RS content. These servers are known as Semi-Custom servers, and typically employ content from various eras of RS all into one. It all comes down to your preference and what type of experience you are looking for. Some servers have completely new and unique map areas, monsters, armor, weapons, and mechanics you may have never seen before. Whereas other servers work to deliver the most up-to-date and authentic content from your favorite era of RS. The choice is yours, and using the ‘Filter By Type‘ function on the RSPS List can help you find what you are looking for!
3. The Community
Although this is the third category on the list, it is by all means just as important as the others! Finding a community you can fit into can make almost any server a delightful experience. Something I like to do is join the official discord server of the RSPS you are looking at, here you should be able to get an idea of how many active members there are, how frequently is the server updated and maintained, as well as get a general idea of how the community is. If you are someone who likes to have a direct line of communication with Developers and staff members, maybe a smaller server would be right for you. If you are someone who is looking to tackle your favorite content with large teams of players, finding a larger community may be your best option. Some other ways of checking out a server’s community would be by looking through the RSPS List section, as each server is ranked by the number of votes it received that month. The higher up on the list, the more votes it’s received and the more players you will have to play with.
In conclusion, finding the right RS Private Server for you all boils down to trial and error. There is no harm in checking out multiple different servers and spending some time in their Discord communities to see what’s the right fit for you. Whichever server you choose to play, I hope my tips have helped you find a server you can call home. Be sure to always check back on the RSPS List and the New Server List to find your next adventure!
Until next time,
